Sprinter reverse light backup camera rig question
Hello all.....
This is my first post in this forum, because I don't actually have my Sprinter yet! My T.V. station has ordered a satellite truck that is being built on a sprinter platform, and we wish to have the company building it out add a feature to the truck. Since I don't have the truck yet, I have no way to determine for myself the best way to accomplish the following: We wish to add a relay or similar to the reverse lights so that when the vehicle is put in reverse, the backup camera and an LCD rear view mirror we are going to add will come on automatically. We also want to have a switch to manually turn them on. My question is this: Where is the best place to hack into the reverse light circuit? Obviously I have to use a relay or something that will prevent the reverse lights from coming on whenever the LCD is switched on manually. I am thinking that a relay whose coil is fed by the reverse lights is the best solution. Two diodes placed between the coil and the reverse lights would allow me to apply 12v to the relay coil without powering the reverse lights up, so I can have the LCD and camera come on manually or automatically with the reverse lights. Does this sound like a working solution? Can anybody help me find a way to describe to the company building my sprinter where to hack into the reverse circuit? Thanks a million!
