2009 ML320 SAM question re: brake controller

Hi all. While trying to sort out my troubles, I found the forum. It's amazing.
I'm trying desperately to go camping, but running into troubles.
My MB dealer doesn't seem to know how to solve it and thought perhaps someone here may have the information.
MB dealer suggested I go to a trailer place to install my Prodigy brake controller... which I did. The trailer place told me that they called MB and were told the SAM codes needed to be changed. Went to MB and now everything works except for the trailer brake lights....all other lights and brake controller functions fine. There is nothing (current) at the female trailer plug-in/receptacle on the vehicle in positions 9 and 3 o'clock where the brake lights are powered from. The vehicle was factory prewired for a brake controller. Interestingly the tech tested a new ML on the lot and found the same issue. Has anyone had a similar experience? Advice? It's taken multiple phone calls, conversations and a whole day at the dealer and 2 trailer places. Although MB dealer is willing, they don't seem to have any answers. Perhaps they missed a bulletin or something. We are certain that it is not a trailer issue.
Many thanks!

For for some unknown reason??? that requires replacement of the rear sam. $$$

I believe that you could wire in a relay that would turn on the lights.

When it came time install a 7-way Bargman plug and brake controller on my ML, I bypassed all the factory connections and wired both directly for these reasons:

1. The wiring harness and related bits and pieces for this work from the dealer were stupidly expensive.

2. The installation instructions were in Greek and even the dealer Techs had trouble figuring what goes where and how.

The “trailer” guy that did the work for had me on the road within 2 hours with no problems in the 8 years it has been installed.
