After 15 years of wanting and 5 years of looking I think I found the right G-Wagen. The only thing that isn't what I wanted is the color. Oh well

I'll be driving it home approx 800 miles. I've driven plenty of miles in W123 sedans so I'm familiar with the engine it's the G stuff that's new to me.

Anything I should watch out for? It's a 1980 with 95k miles on it.

I hope you had it inspected well so that you have no surprises on such a long trip. That old with that many miles on the clock could have some for you.

Are you sure it has 95k? Most of those early odometers only went to 100,000 kilometers before rolling over....

I like that little roof rack that it has in the back but i've never seen wheels like that on a G. Looks like something that would come off an heavy duty truck.....

Those are hub caps. Based on the interior I believe the 95k mile claim.

Well the seats certainly aren't original and could have been installed at any point in the cars life. This was obviously someones toy considering the seats and the loads of chrome that are on the outside....


Your right, if it was on Ebay it was either mislisted or did go very quickly, I check almost every day.....

Not original? They look like the pics of the optional Recaro seats I've seen in G's before.

To clarify: it wasn't a question about it being on E-bay or not, that's where I bought it. I just hope it isn't a rust-bucket underneath.

Definitely NOT original seats. In fact, the driver's and passenger's seats do not match either; but it's not the first G that has had the seats replaced.

That paint does look almost too good. I hope you inspected it well before you forked over the payment!

Well it's home. Paint isn't as good as in the photos, has some of the typical areas that need attention. The frame is rust free however, which is nice. Has some mechanical issues like a worn out intermediate driveshaft, fan clutch toast, wiring gremlins with aftermarket alarm, etc. All in good time.

Thread is a year old....I wonder if those hub caps are even still on there or if the wheels have been changed?
