Pimped out G500s
Is it just me, or do others think that Gwagens with huge rims and low profile tires look very silly?

Anytime the words "pimped out" and Mercedes are used together I think of Benzworld and goal teef.

There is no worst vehicle to 'pimp out' then a G-Class. Nothing says "I'm a deucebag with no brain." then putting oversized rims on a vehicle that is first and foremost an off-roader. Your taking everything that makes that vehicle great and just throwing it out the window.
Can it off-road now? No Can it jump a curb? No Can it carry a huge amount of weight? No Can it be driven in any weather? No I have no complaints with Mercedes having added luxury items over the years. It has made the G move livable in the day to day. But at the end of the day that drivetrain was designed to handle the worst terrain you can throw at it, not some flat boulevard in Florida while riding on 1 inch thick tires. I've had the misfortune to drive one with oversized wheels.....it was horrible in every conceivable way. Here is a REAL G-Class doing what it does best. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YShm9NKRU4M

I guess the same could be said for all the Expeditions, Suburbans, and Lincoln Navigators out there with huge rims and low profile tires on them. They are just silly-looking, not to mention completely non-functional for anything off-road.

While all of the cars mentioned above look silly with oversized rims....they were made for the road 1st and the rough stuff 2nd. The G is the other way around which makes it even more silly that someone would do it. It wouldn't surprise me if most post-2002 owners don't even know how to use the diff locks.

I love watching them slide around when it snows. Also G's that have been pimped tend to be very rough, stay away.

Firstly the traction control must have hated them, secondly I'm so trying that.

I played with mine in a very heavily iced parking lot once. I didn't get it spinning like that but the slides sure were a blast!

They are so tall it seems like they would not be that stable. I guess the center of gravity is still low and based upon where the bulk of the weight is rather than the height of the roof.

Yes. All of the heavy metal (Engine, transmission, transfer case and the frame itself are relatively low compared to the height of the vehicle.) Granted it's no sports car but I felt safer driving it then our old Dodge Caravan that felt like it was going to flip any time you so much as breathed on the steering wheel. (Scroll down for G-Class frame pictures) Stay away from this G...

ALL vehicles with huge rims and low profile tires look silly.
Mercedes are particularly susceptable IMHO and even fitting genuine wheels from another model looks bad, especially on the older ones.

True. I've seen a number of W140s and W210s like that around here that are just awful.

My favorite.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFHhyrZbCvA I would like to point out that the stock Yokohama Geolanders that they come equipped with from the factory are terrible offroad. And in the snow. Well, anything other than dry/partially damp surfaces. With that being said, a nice set of somewhat agressive offroad tires turns it into a whole different beast.
