ML 320 window attachment to regulator

Have a 1999 ML 320 and the front passenger side window stopped going down. I determined the switch, motor, and regulator all work, but the window has become detached from the regulator. (I am well aware of the window switch problems and this is not a switch problem.)

I pulled the inner door off and confirmed the motor makes the regulator operate smoothly. Unlike the drawings I have seen of other regulators, mine does not have clips attaching the regulator to the glass. Mine has a channel the glass fits into. I can manually pull the window down and seat it in the channel. But when I put it up and then down, the window stays in the up position.

Can someone tell me how the window is supposed to attach to the regulator? Here is a pic of the regulator in the full down position showing the channel:
