Question ETS light comes on and off

Has anyone experiece this, the ETS light comes on, then when I shut the car off and turn on again it goes a way ('98 ML320). It has happen about 4 times in the past month or so. Is this just a false alarm or something similar to the MAS sensor I've reading about (I mean similar in that it comes on and goes away).

thanks in advance for any comments.

Wouldn't be the MAF sensor, unsure what it might be right now.

If it's the ETS/BAS light, it very well could be a bad brake light switch. I'd get the codes read.

Thumbs up thanks...

I don't have BAS but I'll have it checked out next time I go to the dealer. My only concern was if the ETS does deactives itself during this times, when the light comes on.

One more question; when you hook up the ML's in search for error codes, do you get a list of all recent error codes? or do you have to browse for a particular area to find each? I say this because the car has been at the shop in between this time, but I forgot to mention it then, and they did not mentioned any error codes.

thanks again

What is normally done is a procedure known as a "quick test" is done, which is the SDS computer taking a "poll" of all the computers on the car which link to the SDS connector port, and listing all the current and stored fault codes. If the switch wasn't acting up at the time the quick test was done, it would only be a stored fault code, and if you didn't complain about a fault in ETS, then the tech probably ignored the code.

Talking right on target!!!

gillybenztech, you were right... thanks.
They checked te car and replaced a bad brake light switch.

On a similar note, the C240 is doing the same (BAS/ETS on and off), I'll have it checked sometime soon....
