Trip computer retro fit
I saw a message over benzworld about retro fit a trip computer in ML 320. I am thinking to do the same but couldn't find the part number. Searched Fastline and it doesn't show the part. I called my dealer today and I was quoted for the whole dome light assemble for $600+. Does anyone know a good source for the trip computer module?
Thanks! |

I think you'll need the whole lamp assembly because on your's there is only the switch for the anti-tow sensor, not the window for the trip computer. Maybe try Potomac German Auto to see if they have a wrecked ML they'll sell you the whole thing out of.

Thank you Gilly for the reply. The trip computer module I was talking about I found a picture over ebay under a closed auction. The picture is attached.
From the picture, I think it is a complete trip computer with alarm breakage sensor built in. The only problem would be the outter display window, but I don't really think that would be too big an issue. And also from the picture, I can see a parts number alike number on the module itself "16228382-1". I don't know if that would work. |

Yeah, there would be a issue with the housing.
The standard version like yours already has the glass breakage sensor microphone and also the anti-tow sensor. Where the switch is to turn off the anti-tow sensor (in case it for some "unexpected" reason would actually need to be towed (LOL). Where this switch sticks out of the dome lamp housing, that's where the MODE switch would stick out. Problem is there is no additional opening for the trip computer display. You'll notice the nickle-sized hole in both models for the glass breakage sensor microphone. I'm not very sure if the wiring is up there to plug in to the trip computer, it may be the same as the anti-tow and glass breakage sensor would use. I've replaced many trip computers but don't recall having to replace the standard version like your's; they never seem to go bad. Gilly

Thank you Gilly, you are always here to help. What I am thinking is that the trip computer module has breakage sensor and the tow switch built in. Anyway, it is really a toy. I also heard there are many complains about malfunctioning trip computers. And for what I have, the standard microphone and tow switch, seems never breaks down.
Thank you again for your advice! |
