Blower Fan Getting Noisy

The blower/fan in our 98 ML320 is getting noisy, especially when a higher setting of 3 or 4 is used. I tried replacing the cabin air filter and that didn't help. Is there any way some debris could have entered the housing and if so, how do I get it out? Easy task or better left to the techs?

Super easy, do it yourself.
Take the lower panel down (dash colored panel) that you remove to access the heater case to change the filter. The blower fan is just to the right of the filter door. Use a flashlight to locate the 3 screws that hold the blower motor to the case. I don't even disconnect the wires to the blower motor. Just take out the 3 screws and the blower will come down out of the case, then just shake the debris out, also any small parts that may be caught in between the slats.

Thanks Gilly! Took me about 5 minutes and I was surprised to find about a cup of leaves and debris in the fan housing and blades. No more fan noise.....now if I could only get the wind noise from the doors to quiet down a bit!! My next project...

mines don't make wind noise...

perhaps you need to upgrade to the newer door seals.. where the wind noise is coming from...

New door seals are probably what I need. I tried to get the dealer to replace them under warranty but they wouldn't do it. They said it was normal for that amount of wind noise coming from the front door area. They did replace the rear door seal twice but that didn.t solve the problem I was having. It's really not that bad until you get to 70 mph or so but after that it gets annoying. How difficult is it to replace the front door seals?
