Retrofit ML video system

Hi,

For those of you who don't know me (newbie), I own a 2002 ML320, with a sunroof, a bose system with cd changer, and memory/folding mirrors/seats, oh yeah, and I'm also very handy! I've just purchased a Mercedes-Benz OEM video system, and now want to install it in my vehicle. I have some instructions (sketchy), and want to proceed. Is there a manual or CD available?? Has anyone done this? If so what are pitfalls to avoid. My vehicle has the curtain airbags... should I remove the whole headliner....(can I get away with just bending it down?). If you have tackled this type of job before, would you recommend doing it...or would you send it to the dealership (remember those airbags!). When re-powering up my ML (reconnecting the battery ground strap(s)). Should I do any type of calibration other than setting the clock, and trip computer (it mentions something about synchronizing the tilt roof& activating the steering angle sensor -what is that?) Please help! Thanks in advance!!

We've done a few where I work. Tough job, very time consuming. I'm obviously not here giving advice on one hand and discouraging DIY work on the other, but you may want to have a shop do this. The techs who have done this spend the best part of a day at it, and believe me, they try to do it as fast as possible while doing a neat job of it. I believe the headliner does need to come all the way out.
To resynchronize the sunroof, you simply push the roof switch to the tilt up position, and continue holding the switch in that position for an extra 5 seconds or so.
The steering angle sensor synchronization involves turning the steering wheel lock to lock a few times after initial start-up until the ESP/BAS light goes out.
