U-500 at Moab!¡

Howdy All,
At this time Freigtliner is going to have a U-500 Mog at Moab 4-17,18,19. That is the Thursday,Friday and Saturday before Easter Sunday. This is in conjunction with Mogs @ Moab. If you want to see a lot of different Mogs in one place this is it.

U500, beauty eh?

Hi Frank,

I wonder if they will remove the front implement plate ebfore hitting the trails? Then again, I wnder if they will hit the trails?

It is one truely awesome looking truck, I only wish I could afford to spend that much money on a truck.

After I saw the pictures of that awesome U-500, I did some more surfing around regarding the new mogs. It looks to me like the 300, 400, 500 series mogs are really not the hot ticket for off-road in the new line-up. The off-road specialists are the 3000,4000, 5000 series mogs. They do not have that front implement carrier standard. The "thousand" series mogs are the ones described as being the serious off road versions while the "hundred series are billed as the worker bees, the implement carriers.

Does anybody know if Freightliner is marketing the "thousand" series along with the "hundred" series mogs? I also liked the looks of the 3000 better than the space alien lookes of the 300. It is much closer to the outgoing model but better looking IMO.

I also have no idea what the new prices are like on these things, $100K???

I have got to agree with you there, the 1000 series are more my cup of tea. The large windshield on the 500 is interesting but like you said it is definitely a municipal workhorse type truck. I think the guys on the mogml list said the 500's are in the $130K range.

I wonder what a 1000 series might be worth in 15years? That would be the earliest could import one here.

Howdy Brent,
I favor the look of the 3/4/500. If I had to choose one on just off road ability it would be the 3/4/5000. From what I have heard it has more articulation and frame flex than the 3/4/500. Also there are more things hanging lower on the 3/4/500. If I was forced to take either one I guess I could find room on the property

Wink Driving in my underwear???

I think I would have to try the 500 to see if the large windshield is something I would like.

I can't help but imagine that I would feel like I was driving in my underwear and everyone could see.

On the other hand, the forward visibility over the hood must be just awesome and would certianly come in handy over rough terrain.
