re: 1984 280GE LWB/5dr., automatic trans.
The "hemisphere" surface behind (inboard of) the right front hub isn't as greasy as (in fact, it's looking a little dry compared to) the left side's, and so I think it's time to fill up the grease reservoir inside (on both sides) -- I've only owned it for a couple of months -- I'm trying to get to all the needed servicings as I discover them. But where do I fill it up? I can only see, when I turn the wheels full lock, a bolt (about 17mm) on the rear side (that is, the bolt's top points rearward), rather than on top. Is it a bolt (that attaches to something inside) that I shouldn't touch, or is the plug? I don't want to damage anything, so I thought I'd ask, first. I can't see anything else that might be a plug. Assuming that it is the plug, I've been told that each side takes about 800 grams of grease, right? Any suggestions on the type of grease? How much should I torque the plug when I close it up? In advance, thanks. [I asked for you, Benzmac, because you indicated that you own a G -- thanks again] |

The knuckle that is a little wet is slightly leaking, the dry one is correct, you don't have to worry too much though. I would call G-wagen USA and ask them what type of grease to use. I do know that they are to be serviced every 80k miles.

Donnie, thanks very much for your reply. Your remark (the "dry" one is correct) made me feel better. Regards.
