				ML430 Oil Filter Madness

			Hello Folks,
Can someone tell me if I can change the oil filter without draining the oil first without oil spilling all over the place? I think I can since the filter is on top, but just want to confirm with experts.

Now to the story. I drained the oil, well, extracted with an oil extractor via the dipstick tube. Usually, I am able to remove the oil filter cap with my hand. After the last service at the dealership, they really torqued the cap down good. In a panic, I called the dealership for the oil filter wrench, but they did not have one in stock. So, I had no choice but to put the new oil in with the old filter. I just can't bring myself to waiting 10,000 miles for an oil change, so I change every 5,000 - 6,000 miles. Even then, I feel like I'm robbing the engine. Old habits hard to break. Thanks. -Norm
