Hot brake/wheel
On the way home last night, after a short 25-mile junket, there was an odour of something hot When I stopped to check, the left front wheel was giving off tremendous heat. All of the other disks could be touched to get some temp indication. For the remaining 2-mile trip home, I crept along. Use of the brake pedal at stop signs was not necessary since there was sufficient friction, presumably from this wheel. No malfunction lights were illuminated on the dash. There is plenty of pad lining.
Although I suspect something faulty with the anti-lock brake/directional control system, I'll first check for any obvious mechanical explanation.
I have two questions:
- has anyone knowledge of a similar problem?
- what damage from the heat can I expect besides a warped rotor, over heated wheel bearing and melted caliper seals?
Any feedback will be gratefully accepted.
