Bundesl'A'nder Versicherung

I have a round decal on the back window of my 1970 220D with three words surrounding a "B" above a "V". Words are "Rechtsschutz Bundesl'a'nder Versicherung". Anyone know what this means in German? Is this a German auto club sticker? Thanks

g5sp,

"Rechtsschutz Bundesl'a'nder Versicherung" Is probably an insurance company. The word "Versicherung" is "insurance" and "Rechtsshutz" is a compound word made up of "rights" and "protection" while the middle word sounds like it is supposed to be "Bundeslander" and two marks are "Umlauts" or two dots above the "a" to denote it is an "a" pronounced as an "ae" sound. It is like another letter and words with letters employing Umlauts mean something different than the same words without the Umlauts. In this case "Bundeslander" with Umlauts is plural of Bundesland. Bundesland is a state in a union, so Bundeslander with the Umlaut means states in the union, which is understood to be the states of the German Federal Republic.

I believe it is a proof-of-insurance sticker required by that particular state. Or it could be like an AAA-type auto club of some sort. I sent an email to a friend of mine in Germany, so I can confirm that in a day or so.

"Legally insured in Bundesland" is my best guess

Even my friend in Germany is stumped. Here is the literal translation:

Rechtsschutz
Rechts = Justice
Schutz = Protection
Bundesländer = States
Versicherung = Insurance

The compound word Rechtsschutz is what is not making any sense. It is either a brand name or who knows what. She says she is going to go ask her brother, because this is like, a car thing.

Was there anything else on the sticker?
