You forgot about the football game.

It was 1914.

Stanfing in the middle of the road? To loosely quote Mr. Hendrix, with tire tracks all across your back, no one will accuse you of hit and run. Its tough being a nice guy. Its much easier to step on the gas.

Thanks...really for some reason 1916 is in my head, there's lots of urban legend about that day.

I read about it recently (I didn't just google it for the fun of proving Kirk wrong ); it was legendary, but only happened that one year, and I believe only between the Brits and the Germans, not really with the French. IIRC, the officers (above, say, Captain) went nuts when it happened and ordered the troops back to the trenches - seeing the other guy as human made it a lot more difficult to kill him the next day. In 1914 you still had the last of the British pre-war professionals (the "Old Contemptibles"). They were toast after the Somme in 1915, and replaced by much larger armies of draftees raised on war propaganda - no real urge to view the evil Hun as a human, plus the trenches were much further apart by then.

According to Tuchman (March of Folly, I think), the Brits began shifting regiments up and down the line so they wouldn't humanize their enemies and would be able to kill them again. It worked.

Kirk head over to the benz forum MM sudjested, it looks like a good site. No offense to Benzworld but their forum is slow and kind of hard to work with. MBworld and this forum are set up much better. Not to mention it is a little dead over their. I hate to say it but I miss reading your crazy liberal views. Hopefully we can get the Webmaster to reconsider here maybe.

Personally I think the shop just caved to a small group of vocal complainers, a couple of whom are posting on this thread. A voice from the left that was articulate enough to draw the attention of others just bothered the living crap out of them. They would rather kill the forum than tolerate a disseting view. They seem to be the only ones celebrating. I'll probably be over to fish in the other pond in a bit.

Well frankly I was sick of the political threads as well, I don't care if they were right, left whatever. A few are ok but 50%+ of the threads is a little much. I still have hope that the Webmaster will bring back OD after the election. This site is a little dry without it.

They should have separated it. A lot of people looking to just hang out would have been happier. Beleive it or not, a lot of people enjoy hotly contested politics. They should have tried to make both groups happy, or moderated excessive politics.

I agree steps should have been taken. I feel like the life has been sucked out of this place now.

Things aren't going much better over at that other forum. Tough Choice. One is too slow and the other shows all the threads for the past three months on page one. Dullsville or the slow lane..

I visited the benzworld off-topic forum, and checked it out, made some contributions to the Pretty Girls Thread like I used to do here, but, I tried to contribute a few mins ago, and it's already been shut down, only on page 3! Here, we made it to about 153 pages I think before we were shut down. Things were better when we had our own OD forum.

Yes, but here we had a real moderation problem and people were getting away with posting anything. Right out of the gate, people just started taking up where they left off when they started posting over there, and the thread immediately turned into lesbian sex beaver land. Most forums don't want it to get beyond what you see in Maxim, and the hornballs from here immediately go Hustler. Give the moderator a day to set some limits, I suppose.
