Reality TV?
I dunno but its just really starting to make me sick. The Swan, i dunno exactly why but its the worst for me. Maybe its because it capitalizes on and exploits women who have extremely low self esteem. I guess it makes them feel better or whatever, probably what the show's creators would say, however shallow and resentful it may make them afterwards. Whatever, I suppose I'm just tired of seeing stupid people on television, in fear I may someday meet people of equal caliber. What do you think about it all?

I believe TV and its programming have lost it. What happened to the discovery channel? All the shows seem like a very long advertisement! I have stopped watching TV completely. Every show either wants to sell a product that you "need", push a message about politics, behavior, language, or anything else they see fit, and I see a disturbing negative slant quickly becoming vertical in the intellectual area of (insert program here) ... I have stopped watching completely. When I do see it, I am amazed how bad it is. Does 1984 come to mind….. wait a second, if they reduce thought to a level of immediate acceptance (dangerously close) there will never be a need for "thought police"......
It scares me to think how many people watch tv and take it as fact, some people at my workplace quote news stories and defend them as if it were their life! I do not think I will expose my children to the tv, my parents did the same favor for me! (do you think that has anything to do with my position?) I do not see it as entertainment – more of a waste of time. What can I do in ½ hour that is productive? (yes, I do realize I spend hours on end on a automotive enthusiasts site doing nothing but BSing, but I do need some time to relax and learn more intresting things about diesel automobiles !)some food for thought....

I watch ER, the Law & Order series, and The West Wing...the latter two were recent additions; I used to only watch ER. I also watch LAX at the moment, but only for the airplanes (and to laugh at the absurdity of it all)...it's a moot point; I think that show's on its way out...
Other than those shows and the news, I don't turn my TV on, and haven't for years. Reality TV is an insult to the collective intelligence of the viewers IMHO...but it seems ot be the wave of the future; most newly-introduced non-reality shows this season have done quite poorly, although that's likely due in part to the low quality of the writers (because all the "good" ones are scripting the reality shows ).

For those mature enough to remember . . .
Reality TV is to broadcast entertainment, what Disco was to music.

I'm not a reality TV person, but there's a spoof 'reality tv' show on now called 'My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss' in which this team of people pretend to run a 'the Apprentice' sort of show with these unwitting participants who think they're competing in a real show. I caught it for the first time last night. The 'management team' playing the boss and his assistants basically spew a bunch of ludicrous, Dilbertesque nonsense and send these people out on challenges in the same way Trump does on his show, and seeing the participants' reactions (everything from eye-rolling to sycophantic head-nodding) is priceless.
That's the only reality show I'll watch ![]() The only show I'm following regularly this season is 'Lost'. And wow, that's a really good show. |
