The following excerpt is from the NY Times regarding changes in pat downs at airports due to recent events in Russia.

At a security checkpoint recently at the Fort Lauderdale airport, Patti LuPone, the singer and actress, recalled, she was instructed to remove articles of clothing. "I took off my belt; I took off my clogs; I took off my leather jacket," she said. "But when the screener said, 'Now take off your shirt,' I hesitated. I said, 'But I'll be exposed.' " When she persisted in her complaints, she said, she was barred from her flight.

i was recently at an airport in a major european city and went through one security point with metal detectors/full pat down including metal wand body screening only to have the same thing happen not 50 feet away at a second checkpoint outside the departure gate!

on the other hand,
this body pat downs stuff is not new. when i went through paris orly in the mid 70s everyone was fully frisked when going through security. they did do it in little booths with curtains then to preserve some privacy.
the whole thing took about 15 seconds as i recall.

i understand that at london heathrow airport a full body x-ray machine is in use now, although i didn't see it when i passed through there a couple of weeks ago.

And they let Muslim men parade around as women hidden under a scarf to be PC and not offend the terrorist element.

And they strip search americans.........

Whenever I have to slip off my shoes in TSA's checkpoints, I can't help but thank goodness that Richard Reid didn't have an underwear bomb.

The first person who tries to do a body cavity search on me is going to kind my foot firmly stuck in theirs. I draw the line on searches when underwear gets exposed.
