Got it! You've got folded horns, huh? I had some Altec A7s modded out the wazoo (should never have sold them), some 210 cabinets with the tar-filled horns and 288 drivers on top, and let my brother sell a pair of K-horns w/o making an offer of my own (DUMB move). I now have a custom 300B amp driving some custom cabinets with single drivers (no crossover!). The detail is just scary!

The "home theater" room is where the transmission line speakers and sub hide. It's amazing that those fancy new speakers and Velodyne sub just dodn't excite me half as much as the custom cabinets in the "listening room." Funny thing is, they are Radio Shack 5" whizzer cone drivers in TQWT cabinets (as featured on the single driver homepage). Of all the stereo junk I have owned, these take the cake. Better than Magenpans, Acoustats, Altecs, JBLs, Klipsch, Dahlquist, Jensens, etc... Maybe it's just the nature of THOSE speakers and THAT amp. You know how that goes.

BTW, my vinyl collection is probably well over 3000 by now (not counting 78s). I have some ridiculously weird titles, including two KKK (yes, Klan) records on 78. *In no way do I support the activities or positions on the Klan, but these things are living pieces of history.* It's spooky to hear a pop orchestra and vocalist crooning "That's why I'm a Klansman, a Klansman through & through." My favorite 78, though, would be Bill Haley's "So Long, Farewell, Goodbye." That sax is SO FAT!

THOSE are cool! I have some as well. My brother also picked up a great collection of open reel tapes at the estate sale of a deceased doctor. This guy took his "portable" Ampex machines (funny what constited "portable" back then) down to Daytona and make tapes. There is some neat stuff in there!

Obscurest of the obscure

For obscure stuff, check out this site. I have gobs of this kind of crap laying around, and can't bring myself to throw it out or even sell it. It's just too much fun to bust out at parties.

Of course, I could just download all these MP3's and play them, but it's so much more fun to break out the LPs, 78s, and 45s!

Would LOVE to see your sound room
I've posted this pic before, so the rest of you guys just ignore this I built these 25 years ago when I first got married. We lived in a 1 bedroom apartment at the time, and pretty much took up the whole living room. I've changed drivers in them several times since then, and currently have Klipsch 15" commercial drivers. Powered by a hafler DH500 power amp right off the sub-out of my H-K surround reciever. They'll rattle the house real well, as well as the neighbors'. The rest of the system is pretty much homemade too. my fronts are driven by a Hafler DH200. The 2 horns you see at top are the mid horn and tweet horns(half of them) The mid-horns are old Speakerlab ferro-fluid filled MH-350's, the tweets just a cheap-o radio shack jobs that do the job(for now). They currently are hung from the ceiling in pairs at the front of the living room.

Cool speakers, Rick! If you're ever through Central IL stop by and we'll spin some vinyl! Have you considered using a tube amp(s) on your mid and hi frequency horns? I sure like the sound of tubes behind horns! Are you using an electronic crossover?

Thanks for sharing the pic; I wish I had one of my Altec 210 cabinets before I sold them. They came out of a theater and were about 10' tall with two Altec 515 (15") woofers in each. I had three of them stuffed in my garage!

Oh god! You had old theatre horns, huh?! Ya can stun small animals with those
I'd like to find some good old Macintosh tube amps someday to power the stuff with. But the Haflers are a good bargain on Ebay, and have very good clean sound for my budget right now.
I do want to go with electronic crossovers next. Right now I'm using a pair of old Radio Shack adjustable 3-way crossovers(they USED to sell halfway decent stuff many years ago)
I gained alot when I got my H-K reciever with the sub-out. I used to use an old equalizer before as a low-pass filter for the bass horns, but it didn't filter very well. Got the idea from another stereo nut many years ago as a way to get by cheap, and I had a couple equalizers laying around and tried it. It kinda worked. But that's the fun of the stereo hobby, messing around and trying different stuff.

I'm a bit of a Can fan, if anyone else is into them please let me know. As far as obscure vinyl goes, most of my stuff is nothing special.

Obscure music?? Boy, that's broad! I have Pink Floyd's Obscured By Clouds lp. I also have Elvis' Christmas Album . But the MOST obscure album I own is by Lou Reed. It's titled Metal Machine Music and is a double album of feedback and other electronic noise. The album credits are all studio equipment. RCA was probably on something when they approved that one!

The Notting Hillbillies ~~ Missing...Presumed Having a Good Time

Heard them on SNL many moons ago and had to buy the CD--only time that has ever happened. The music is sort of blues/folk/hillbilly combo. I think the "band" is made up of guys famous for being in other bands: Mark Knopfler, Steve Phillips, Guy Fletcher, and Brendan Croker.

Other than that I have 2 extremely obscure vinyl albums, both that my dad played on with country bands in the '70s when he was in Germany in the Army (he plays steel guitar). Prolly only 10 copies of each left...My sis & I are trying to figure out how to record them to a CD (have a turntable, have the connecting cords, but the CD is too scratchy).

Howdy All,
I have several CDs by Kerry Christensen. He is known as the Swiss Cowboy. He is Americas best yodeler. Then I have CDs by a number of Cowboy singers. Lead by my favorite Wylie and the Wild West.

Yodeling? Didn't they outlaw that back in the 60's?
