I'd like to see what the numbers are for the US. I wonder if the figure would be comparable, or better, or worse?

I know a sizable percentage of people polled in the US can't locate the US on a map or globe, or name the current president. I guessed that a lot of these people were just messing around with the interviewer, though. I hope, anyway? Sometimes I wonder.

I've very occasionally come across someone who isn't familiar with the holocaust in general, but it's few and far between. I can imagine someone not knowing of particular camps, perhaps, although even that is difficult.

I would expect it to be worse, since WWII (Europe) had less impact on the U.S. than it did on the U.K.

the holocaust was mankind in his worst hour. but it also still happens all the time to other ethnic groups besides jews. how come we never hear about them? how long are we going to let the jews play the victim game? how long are we going to piss off the muslim world by being blatantly biased towards israel?

It has a lot to say about our education systems in the last twenty some years. Students have too much freedom to choose only what interest them, and pretty much skim over those they don't. World history, for that matter, history in generally is one of the most ignored subjects because it requires them to memorize many events for the exams.

If we do not learn from the past mistakes, wonder how we are to become better tomorrow.

I figured I would get some non-thinking reply as this. You can't even disagree with the importance of the holocaust nowadays. While it was, and should always be taught about, it sould also be put into context with all the other human atrocities that occurred before and after the screwball hitler took control of germany. There are thousands dying today in Africa. Today I said. Look it up. Just because they are from a third world nation do they not deserve recognition? They do. And the jewish community has played their victim card long enough. Hell even a good jewish friend of mine thinks that we favor israel far too much and that they are mentioned in the media far too often. We as a society can not keep educating our children to think in the simple good and evil guise. The rest of the world is moving on, and we are falling behind.

To my knowledge, there has never been an attempt such as what the Nazis did to remove an entire group of people from the face of the planet in such a violent and methodical way.

In nearly every century, someone has tried to exterminate the Jews.

As far as supporting Israel, do you honestly think the US is supporting them out of the goodness of their heart? There is a quid pro quo. They test the US weapons systems under live fire, real combat situations. They provide intelligence on all the powers in that area. Who do you think took out the Iraqi nuclear power plant in 1981? They are the only democratic country in the area. The US gets far more out of their support for Israel than for the support provided to Saudi Arabia (home of the 9/11 terrorists) Kuwait … etc.

We hear about the genocide that is occurring in Africa but US chooses to do nothing because they have nothing to offer. No precious metals, no oil, strategic bases, so we let them die.

Racism is alive and well in the US. When Bush Jr. played the race card to get John McCain punted out of the primaries in 2000 no one even flinched. His campaign circulated flyers in S. Carolina (I believe) implying that McCain had a “Negro” (a vulgar term in the way that it was used) baby. The facts were that the child was adopted after they brought the child to the US for medical treatment. Not that it should have mattered how the child came to live with the McCains.

My guess is that you are white male. You probably have never had a door slammed in your face because of your skin color. Never been called a “Christ killer” because of your religious beliefs. Never been paid less for the same work just because you can take a leak standing up.

Just because not all of injustices in the world are noted by society does not mean that any of them should ever be forgotten.

And yes, I am a Jew and my family are survivors of the Nazi concentration camps, including Auschwitz.

The Turks attempted the same thing against the Armenians in the early 20th Century. The Serbians were thwarted in their attempt to kill millions of muslims. In Rwanda, millions died in a genocide. Stalin targeted and exterminated ethnic groups as ruthlessly as Hitler did, with as many victims.

You assumptions are incorrect. I am very, very, much in the minority in this country. I see prejudice everyday toward people like myself. So can the I don't know crap.

It is your "my way or the highway" attitude that is the most telling. Telling in that there is no other way than the way you value things in your mind. If anything else dares to question that then it is you who becomes the antagonist while screaming I am a victim at the top of your lungs while wheeling the sword to cut off anything you think is dangerous to your biased frame of mind. See this antic everyday. This is why we are at war in Iraq. And this is why we will have to deal with generations of "victims" who are hostile to US troops and people for decades to come. We will have to pay for our arrogance.
