Oil shortage reasons

A lot of folks can't understand
how we came to have
an oil shortage here in America.

Well, there's a very simple answer.

Nobody bothered to check the oil.

We just didn't know we were getting low.
~~~
The reason for that is purely geographical.

and
TEXAS

Has anyone heard of peak oil? M. King Hubberd wrote about this in the 70s.
Lots of talk about the reason for 911 and the invasion of Iraq is peak oil and
controlling what is left of it. Also a lot of writing on competition with China over future oil supplies as they pass this peak.

We, the consumer, have a lot to be blamed for the over-consumption of the oil. After the oil embargo, we were very much aware of oil conservation. For many years, the industries and the consumers were careful in our consumption. But during the 90's, both the industries and the consumers were spoiled once again by the low prices of the oil. Huge SUV's began to surface and the industries were not concerned as they once were.

Of course China has been consuming much more than before due to its economic expansion. But, overall, we WASTED the precious energy more than the rest of world combined! The word is WASTE.
