MB builds its cars from a platform for several years before replacing it with another platform. Your car is a W202, the internal Mercedes designation for the compact (C Class) platform sold in the US between model years 1994 and 2000. It was preceded by the W201 platform, better known as the 190 series, and it was followed by the current C class, the W203, sold in the US from the 2001 model year to date.

Yes, a 95 C Class would be a W202, sometimes gets shortened to just "202".
PC Dave explained it very well. It is definitely confusing for awhile for newbies, so don't feel like the Lone Ranger. Gilly
