Howdy All,
85 Dodge Colt I had for 10 years. Sold it with 130,000 miles and the people got it up to about 320,000 miles and retired it because it was tired. 95 Jeep Wrangler I had for 10 years. Sold itto a friend with 76,000 miles on it. A lot of those miles were off road. He is using it for daily driver.

my 87 ford mustang ls... 250k+... it doesn't run right now but a new fuel pump in next couple of weeks should have it back on the rd.. and my nissan pathfinders, 89RIP (175k with hardly any work besides a new tranny), and the 94 going strong in 4 wheel...

Unbelievable but true, my '74 MGB-GT was the best car I've ever driven, reliability wise. I drove it for five years, four of which were year 'round years in Chicago, parking on the street, digging it out of the snow and starting on
-60 degree wind chill days. That car was unstoppable, despite MG stories of horrible electrics and everything else. I had to put a '71 motor in it from my roadster after the '74 blew right after I bought it. Totally unreal. Drove it all over the Eastern half of the US too. In the end, it had like 120K on it. Not much by modern car standards, but by MG standards it was a phenom. I bought it at 72K in 1993. Just started to rust over the wheel well, but otherwise beautiful.

Back to topic....Longest had (10 years - 1991 300CE); most reliable - 2002 CLK55.

this one's for my brother--

He is still driving a 1978 Toyota 3/4 ton longbed pickup he bought new, original engine, tranny and rear end.

388,000 miles and still gets 26 on the road.

Primitive but tough as nails.

Interesting to see that we've got all kinds of makes here, not just MB diesels.
I almost thought that was all I was going to see here.

My Monte Carlo SS is a whole lot more reliable than my 300E. The GM 3800 motor is an excellent design, and quite bulletproof. I swear, if the previous owner of my W124 had taken care of it properly, I would not have sold it.

My 93 Silverado has needed nothing other than routine maintenance since I've bought it new and it just turned 120K. My 85 300D by that mileage in about as much time had already gone through a transmission, several sets of brakes, numerous switches, A/C controller, plus other misc. things totalling a few $K!
Are the W123's as relaible as they're touted?

No not much has changed. W123, W124, W210, W211 they all have common MB problems. I am sure back in the day more then one person got nailed for a big bill, because the MB dealer spent 6 hours finding why the climate control wasn't working on their W123.

All MB's seem to share similer problem areas:
Climate control
Cruise control
Sun roof
Electrical stuff
cracking dash boards.

Plantman my oil pump was leaking also, but I just changed the gasket. It was the gasket between the pump and block if I remember correctly.

The car Ive owned the longest is my current 300D Turbodiesl, and Im approaching the 2 year anniversary of its purchase. I am however, only 20 and have owned 2 other 300D Turbos previously. The first one I owned and the current one I own have carried me appx. 85K miles without ANY major mechanical problems, and I have only been "left stranded" once for 3 hours when my started started to go out and wouldnt start when warm. But once It cooled down it started right up and I drove it straight to a shop in Orange County (I was on a trip) and had the starter replaced. No problems since!!
Preventative maintenance really pays off... i wouldnt hesitate to drive my car anywhere!

As for the car I have owned the longest, well id have to say the C280. It wasnt my car originally, it was my parents. After going through a long string of the cars from when i was little- Audi 5000, 2 Peugeot 505 STI's, a 1989 300E (which was stolen when it was nearly new), Honda Accored Sei, and then a Range Rover County LWB, the C280 in our stable came along and found its home. My dad bought it in Germany and brought it over in 1997 and since then it has racked up a hefty 188K relatively trouble miles.... my mom commuted in it 124 miles a day (round trip) for about 2 year after her Accord that she previously used for commuting died. Then I became the regular driver and maintainer when I got my license and my mom got a job closer to home and started biking.... that was 5 years ago. Its suffered from the usual W202 problems- head gasket and wiring harness issues, but those have been remedied, and its been a champ throught outs life to now. I feel it is one of the last well built cars MB ever built when compare dot the stuff they are making now, and I never want to get rid of it. There were times when it was a "juggle" and we wanted to throw in the towel, but after getting through some issues -primarily the head gasket and a huge oil leak that was related, its running flawlessly, and the thought of parting with it is unbearable.

Happpy Motoring!

I bought a 2000 E430 two weeks ago.

I was the highest bidder on an Ebay auction, but it didn't meet the seller's reserve.

We ended up negotiating off-line, and we struck a deal.

It took a week for it to arrive in So. Cal. The car came from Houston.

I got real lucky. The car is in very, very mint condition.

See my signature.

I bought my '82 300D in 2000 with 206k miles. I paid too much and the guy I bought it from was far from honest with me about the work that had been done to it, but it is currently at 317k and has been startlingly reliable for such an "old" car. The very rigorous duty cycle I've put it in has been interrupted only for a B2 piston, oil cooler lines, and a vacuum pump. Until last October, I commuted 70 miles a day year round in it, and have driven it all over the place, from Minnesota to Georgia to Pennsylvania to Oklahoma. I've completely rebuilt the suspension and AC, so it doesn't win the contest for "least work," though. I will never successfully kill this car.

My parents bought a '92 Dodge Caravan 3.3L V6 new and ran it to 175k miles with shockingly little maintenance. Not a single hiccup other than a dead battery in 8 years; the transmission was still going strong with the remains of the original ATF when they sold it.

My '96 Passat TDI has been in the family since it was six weeks old, and has been pretty good, as well. The instrument cluster was replaced under warrantly and the drain plug fell out(!) in the garage once. One torn CV boot, and it blew a fuse this week. 183k now and it just keeps going, though the GM-grade interior is definately showing its age.

1985 Toyota 4X4 Pickup. Only time it left me (or the people around me who drove it) in trouble was when then serpentine belt gave in. Luckily, it was around town and the parts store was a few minutes walk away.
