Actually, MLs are made in Alabama. MB has built cars in South Africa for decades (W126 production continued for a year or two there after cessation in Germany), I'm sure there are others but those come immediately to mind.

Mercedes is also building production plants in China, Iran, and India, presumably for "local" consumption.

Aren't some BMW's being assembled in the midwest too?

Actually if you look at the window stickers they will give you a % of parts that come from the mother country.

For example a Honda S2000 uses 100% Japanese parts, an Accord uses about 17%.

I think MB's run in the 50%-70% range.

If I remember correctly a CL55 AMG uses 57% German parts.

MB has been cranking cars out of South Africa for a very long time.

Please use the word assembled in Alabama! And contrary to popular belief, they do NOT leave the factory with a pack of Redman chewing tobacco and a six pack of Busch beer in the glovebox!!!

That would explain all the rattles on the 98s and 99s. Good thing they changed the production process..

Buit fair is fair - check the window sticker on an 'American' Chrysler Crossfire, and see the % of content and location where assembled (What's that you say? A German Chrysler?)
