Had a close family member get T-boned by a tandem axle dump truck (w' load so nearly 30,000 lbs) that blew a stoplight at about 45-50 mph in a 1995 E320 wagon. Took the hit on the passenger side, flattened 2 tires on impact, knocked the W124 sideways. The driver door and everything on the non impact side still opened/closed. Driver was sore and had some back issues due to the lateral smack (physics of 3500 lb vehicle vs something almost 10x that) but was okay. Car should of been totalled but insurance tried to save it with less than perfect results. In any case, no doubt that car saved her life.

Then there's princess Diana. Of course, the one person actually belted into that Mercedes did live. Use those belts!

My grandmother was t-boned in a W123 240D several years ago by a big rig. She was struck at 50mph, her car rolled numerous times, and came to rest in an embankment. She got out and suffered only from a broken arm. After the accident she kept the 240D covered in her garage as a souvenier. Parked next to her replacement car- a new W124 300E

there was a guy in south africa whose 124 went over a cliff. big distance. musta been in the hundreds of feet. he opened the door and walked out without any major medical emergencies. might have had a broken arm only.

he wanted to get another one but there was a waiting list and he got a BMW instead

mercedes south africa used to have a print ad of his car at the bottom of the cliff. and it was a long way down.
