All I have is negative evidence, which I think in this case is not good for my side.

I googled high and low and found nothing about it. I should think that an accident like that would make somebody's web page somewhere. I have found stories about pallets released on runways and other neat stuff but nothing about cargo ripping-out the cargo door.

BTW, in case anybody is wondering why I have so much free time to surf, my wife had surgery (she's okay, though pretty stoned on opiates) and I've taken a week's leave to make sure she doesn't slack-up on housecleaning, laundry and cooking.

Lucky SOB! Wanna fly me around in one someday? If I had to pick just one plane to fly in, it would probably be a P-51 (as long as a high speed low-level pass was in the mix!).

Speaking of F-1, I am heading to the race this weekend. Talk about more music to the ears!

I am obviously not a pilot but what was this part of the article referring to? Maximum safe decent rate?

"The big worry was whether we could meet the maximum sink rate of nine feet per second," Flatley said. As it turned out, the Navy was amazed to find they were able to better this mark by a substantial margin.

They are concerned that the airplane will be sinking faster than nine feet per second on final approach to the carrier. If it exceeds this value, there is a risk of collapsing the gear and other structural failure.

You can't simply drop it on a carrier deck like a typical jet fighter.

U-2s are a totally different breed o' cat. I'll bet that bird was intersting to fly on final with all that turbulence generated by the island and hull.

They tried landing a U2 spyplane on a carrier as well?

bulldozer

Bulldozers can definately roll! about 15 years ago a fellow I knew was using his fathers bulldozer to pull out a stuck tractor if I remember right. when they went to hook up the tow chain the bulldoxer rolled backwards and rolled over the lower half of his body! No that story is not B.S. I knew his family (small town) messed up that family!

I wonder if they'd be brave enough to try a B-2 bomber landing...that thing should have plenty of lift to take off with the limited runway. But then again the wingspan is another issue.
