That's a real beauty. A German fellow I used to work for told me that Grundig was top of the line when he was growing up. I bet it still works, probably very well. The Zenith console my dad years ago doesn't hold a candle to that.
He forgot to turn it off one day and the tubes burned up. When he went down to Eckerds drug store and saw that the tube testing machine was long gone he just chucked it in the trash. What a shame. Then again, I am a real pack-rat. Enjoy.

I have a portable tube tester. I love tubes. Sound travels better through a vacuum!

I have a Grundig Mandello.
http://www.radiomuseum.org/dsp_modell.cfm?model_id=78046
AM/FM with three shortwave bands.

Beautiful finish on the cabinet and great sound. We've listened to Radio New Zealand and Radio Japan on it.

I picked up a service manual on Ebay for $5.

I had to pull the speakers and very carefully vacuum the foam out of the center of the cones. It had rotted and was causing a rasping noise. I also used tuner cleaner on all of the switches and tuning capacitors to get rid of static.

I think you'll really enjoy yours when you do get it up and running.

Michael

I have a 1954 Grundig Majestic: http://www.radiomuseum.org/dsp_modell.cfm?model_id=2067
as well as a 1963 Grundig and a 1961 Motorola console.

All of them sound fantastic expecially the 1954 H-Fi.

I would recommend that you check the power cord before plugging it in. You may need to replace it.

Hope yours works.

Reviving an old thread.

The Grundig is going to have to make space for other stuff.

Anybody interested?

IF nobody here is interested, what should I ask for it on eBay?

Try your local Craigslist first; the trouble with eBay is that shipping is prohibitive for most.

Yeah... I was wondering what to do about shipping...

So, if I go with Craigslist - what should I price it at?

Seems like the smaller of the Grundig Majestic line (tabletops) seem to fetch a fair amount, but they are easier to ship. I'd think $150 would be a reasonable starting point if everything's in working order, but be sure to attach an "OBO" to that. I passed on one locally for $100 as I knew it would irk the wife to no end; if it had been in the summertime and I could have made room in the garage for it, I probably would have bought it.

You can always try eBaying it and just putting a reserve on it, but it'll cost you. eBay keeps raising their fees. Good luck with the sale -- you'll miss it!

Darn, darn, darn the luck!

I just went to turn it on again, to make sure the phonograph works, when I see that the unit itself won't power up. I have a suspicion it was left on when it lived on the other side of the room. Probably burnt out every tube.
At least the turntable turns.
Damnit!

Check your fuses -- you might get lucky!

There was one in-line fuse that I could spot, without taking everything apart.
Although it had a little corrosion, I think it was ok, since the turntable still turned.

Thanks anyway!
