OK, I found one article I read and Franken wrote it. Oh well. Maybe I'm full of it, but it was a good article and good information to get out, IMHO. http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/2004/03/02_400.html Besides, do you begrudge Bob Hope all the publicity he got for his USO tours? Did he do it with fanfare intentionally? I think the fanfare was unavoidable.

Quote:Botnst: >>>I guess so. I like it better if these folks go and don't tell. Not to impugn Franken, his are probably the right reasons (who wouldn't want a comedian in a hospital?), but I could imagine that some people might show-up at the rehab hospital or at some soldier's funeral, just to make public political points by doing it. "See how compassionate he/she is?" When they do it without fanfare or publicity, then I believe it unquestioningly.<<< I couldn't tell if you were saying he did his USO work with or without publicity. I mean, you didn't slam the guy, but you left the door open for questionable motives on his part. There was some publicity, but why not? Doesn't it warm our hearts to see our soldiers being entertained? We sure ate up the Bob Hope tours. So, are you saying you think he did to "make public political points by doing it?" And speaking of "did you read it?", did you read the Mother Jones story I linked to? It's a good story. Here t'is again: http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/2004/03/02_400.html

I am too. It's also unclear to me if Franken was trying to beat his chest, a good possibility, or if he was trying to find some common ground 'tween various camps who are often at each other's throats, also a good possibility based on that aricle. I liked the article, unlike the liver pill salesman whose dial is set at 98% putting information out, 2% taking it in.

Franken is not my ideal spokesman -- better than Michael Moore, though a lot of people would be. I don't want to give you a hard time. I like that you offer up the idea that Franken making wounded soldiers laugh is good for our land and people. Still, your post is a bit cryptic. Oh well. Franken occasionally makes very good points. If you have a chance to catch the video "Outfoxed," put out by FAIR (fair.org), he deftly shows beyond doubt some serious falsities put out by his nemesis, Bill O'Reilly. Ol' Lao Tzu says that the wise man is grateful for even a faint light, for what little light it gives. I just get a little cranky when I hear good people's name getting dog feces thrown on it as several people on this site do without batting an eye, people who can't be bothered to actually examine what the guy is saying. Not putting you in this camp, just trying to explain my crankyness, of which there is a great deal.
