Until the substance in question is brought to light, it's difficult to form an opinion one way or the other. I doubt he was injecting steroids. More likely, there was a banned substance in some sort of supplement he took. I find it curious that baseball seems to have adopted a policy of non-disclosure in regard to this issue, and believe it unlikely that he purposely violated the league rule and risk derision and embarrassment.

There's a **** load of supplements out there that claim to have steroid like effects, aka "pro-hormones". E.g. anabol, like Mark McGuire used. There have been many university studies showing these have absolutely NO effect.

I don't know how MM got that big? Maybe he also used the real "gear" or actually busted his butt when using the supps and grew.

Haven't seen Palmeiro though. Usuually you can tell if they are juicing, the muscles just don't look natural -- Jose Conseco is a perfect example.
Palmeiro is a pretty normal-looking guy. Canseco is a great example of a juice-freak -- so is Sosa. If you check some pics of these guys when they first came up, they look nothing like that now. The shape of Sosa's head has even changed.

I'm a Maryland native and a huge Orioles fan.

It's been a dark summer in Baltimore for O's fans lately. Lots of "I told you so's" being flung in the Orioles direction.

Considering that the O's have lost 12 of the last 13 games and are headed straight for the cellar, this may be one of the worst times in franchise history. This year's team has also racked up 2 DWIs, 3 suspensions, 2 broken hands, an assaulted restaraunt patron, and a judge was punched in the face.

The jury is still out on what exactly Palmeiro did, but it doesn't look good.

Be glad you aren't an Orioles fan.

I believe that baseball owes its fans, ballplayers, coaches, and management an explanation. What substance tested positive? How might the substance have entered the bloodstream? Did the player specifically know that this particular substance was banned? It's my understanding that while baseball has done an adequate job of setting up broad parameters and testing criteria, they've been rather inattentive to details. Sometimes, these details can make all the difference in determining innocence or guilt.

Personally every professional athlete should be drug tested.....if they fail they forfit their entire contract...

They get paid enough that they should not be even thinking about this crap.

And then there was the one about the Romanian gymnast who was stripped of her medal because she caught a cold and her coach had given her an antihistamine the night before. It's not always so cut and dry.
