I was born to the cold -- I guess that's why I grew to hate it so much. I admit that I do miss the snow, though. My favorite place I ever lived hands down is Boulder, CO, although my present locale is a close second.

Did it take long to acclimate to hot weather? I guess Colorado gets pretty warm in the summer months, but I've only been there during ski season.

I like to exercise and in warm weather end up putting out a lot of energy just to keep cool and I have, well attitude problems when it’s too warm. For me too warm is above about 60 degrees

I love the heat. For me, too cold is below 80. I don't generally use the AC 'til it's hitting the mid 90's here.

Huh... "This page cannot be accessed with current security settings."

Anyway I can take the heat, I can take the cold. I've learned that I just have to hydrate properly in the heat and dress appropriately in the cold. I can go run 5 miles in 99 degree heat and have no problems if I'm hydrated. If I'm not hydrated I'm out for at least 24 hours. Not a nice feeling.

As much as I love the mountains, I need the city for its amenities.

I know a lot of folks love heat, but I don't tolerate it well. Well maybe, in theory, after a while, but I have no idea how long of a while. When it gets warm here, I head for mountain tops. Which is why Montana has an appeal. That and very low cost of living. A similar house around here would be 2x to 4x the cost, without including the property as part of the value.

Uhm, OK. I take it you've researched the market for your product in Montana?

It did that to me once, too. The page that is, not running in 99 degree heat. Try a reload or opening the link in a new browser window. Best i've done in for exercise in the heat recently was to gain about 2800' in 2.5 hours in about 85 degree temp. The temp takes most of the fun out of it. That and bugs. We did a trip to see some wild flowers recently and the biggest challange was having to wear long clothes to not get our bodies welted by infernal bugs on 80 degree weather. But still worth it...

The web makes so much available you can order anything 2nd day. My SO is the real consumer. It would probably be a challange for her.

Audubon does a profile on places sometimes about companies that strip mine or drill or do something to the land that releases toxins or contaminates the water and the soil so I would check around for 50 square miles before buying anything out there. I know Audubon can be rather over zealous but somebody has to watch out for Mother Earth.

i am guessing this may be in BFE.. the link doesn't work but you said cheap.. not all places are cheap at all.. anything near either of the parks (whitefi$h) is not cheap... winters can be very hard from what i hear.. you really gotta love the cold which sounds like you do... it's more of a survival game there then the romantic living that most envision.

Montana gets pretty reallllly cold. I've heard that ski resorts have to close a few times in an average winter because it’s so cold that folks will get frostbite while riding the chair lift. That’s at a about 7,000-11,000 feet elevation. And also before global warming changed everything. It would definitely be a good idea to see what the temp range is in the area, and the local history for mining!

But I'm okay with cold. Modern fireplace technology being what it is, you can easily over-heat about 1800’ of floor space with a single small wood burning firebox.

Didn’t know the link was flaky. I’ll see if I can find another way to it
