I agree with one respondent that the average driver is more likely to confuse a civilian Crown Vic for a police car than any color Beetle. Besides, isn't it to the CHP's advantage to have more black and whites pacing traffic?

I am from San Ramon, and they along with the Dublin and Walnut Creek police have nothing to do.

In Hawaii aren't all the police cars personal cars at least on the big island marked only with a blue magnetic light attached to the roof?

The island of Hawaii (Hawaii County) has a relatively small budget, so instead of maintaining a fleet of Crown Vics, they subsidize patrol officer's vehicle purchases and fuel. Over on Oahu/Honolulu, we have the cruisers and subsidized vehicles, mostly SUVs, but also including a lot of Mustangs and even at least one Nissan Altima.

Thanks MTI I was waiting for you to clarify that one

That makes sense financially. I was over in Kona awhile back and I saw a Ford Explorer and a Pontiac Ram Air Firebird on the side of the road and I saw that to be strange for police cars.

Sounds like a fun retirement job although I doubt there are frequent car chases.

Ah, so those were Geek Squad's beetles. I thought the cops got better taste in cars.

Seriously though, this is stupid. But, I guess as one guy pointed out "don't wanna be mistaken for a cop and get shot" at the wrong place.

BTW sixto, I like the thread's title
