How bout the gov'n or GA now

Proposing dropping state tax on fuel through the end of the month. It is going before the legislature on Tuesday of next week. In my opinion, the tax should have been raised alot years ago and dropped off when things get crazy like now. Says the state is going to lose $74million during this time.

State tax

I would like to see how much of a difference that would make to the price of gas in TN, AL and FL compared to GA. I suspect that if he does drop the tax, the gas companies will just claw the prices back.

Why should the state drop the tax? The higher cost of gasoline will cause a reduction in consumption, one way or the other. The lost state revenues are significant.

A bit of conservation, say 10%, by everyone, and the prices will steadily fall to normal levels (maybe $2.20 or so).

The State taxes on fuel are only pennies per gallon. The Federal fuel tax is another animal at something like $0.20 per gallon. 'Round here that would still leave fuel running above $3 per gallon.

Talked with the wife last night, she had just filled the Suburban for $2.85/gal. Never thought I would see gas cheaper in CA! Shoot, that is a good $0.50/gal less than my local MI gas station.

Same here. It's up to $3.39 here at most stations. The big boys (Mobil) along the highway are up to $3.69. That same station had premium for $3.99.

Unhappy

Suspending the Ga. gas tax will save me about $60 a month at current prices. That's significant to me, what with beer prices going up and all!
