Collectors/What do you collect?

Hi MB Guy and Gal
What do you collect? Stamps, coins etc.
I collect Gruen wrist watches from the 30's, 40's.
Great watches, the american rolex of that time period.
Just started collecting German Portrait Plates from the turn of the century.
More junk for my children to fight over when I'm gone. Thanks and looking forward to reading about your collections. Happy driving.

I collect gold coins, gold bricks and bricks of silver. All my economy professors said to buy as much silver as possible since we are running low and they use alot for electronics (motherboards, chips etc).

Here are some pics of what I own....no my pics though.

I have a few of these 100oz bricks of silver. They run about $750 per brick on ebay. Get the Engelhard ones if you are looking to invest. Silver is trading at about 7.00 dollars per ounce. This weighs over 6lbs L5.5" X W2.75" X D1.25".
If you want to invest don't buy the little 1oz or 10oz ones.....go right for the 100oz bricks. The price of silver is very low so the only thing it can do is go up. You have to see people's faces when you walk into the bank with a few of these bricks to put in the safety deposit box.

Here is something for a size comparison...this one pictured is only 25oz.

I also do gold...but this can get expensive (about 250.00 dollars for this little thing)
This is 10 grams which is about the size of a penny

I just got this the other day. Princess Diana .99999% Gold coin. It is 1/10 of an ounce so it is about the size of a US dime. I got it for only 50 bucks but it looks really sharp.

I work in a bank so I get a huge free safety deposit box
I got these pics from ebay.

the good thing about collecting gold or silver. You'll never go broke.
Why Engelhardt? I have about 40 silver dollars and 2 one dollar US coins.
Thanks for the info on the silver bars. Happy driving.

It's not only engelhard but few others....here is a copy and paste about collecting the 100oz silver bricks.

100-oz .999 Fine Silver Bullion Bars
One hundred ounce .999 fine silver bullion bars have become standards for silver investors. 100-oz silver bars are uniform in shape, which means 100-oz silver bars are easy to stack and store. Because a 100-oz silver bar weighs only 6.86 pounds on a bathroom scale, silver bars are easily handled by just about anyone.

Further, 100-oz silver bars are .999 fine (essentially pure), which enables silver bullion investors to store a great amount of wealth in a relative small space. Because 100-oz silver bars are accepted trading mediums, they are as easily sold as they are bought.

Numerous brands of silver bars have been produced, but today four brands dominate the silver bullion market: Johnson Matthey, Engelhard, Wall Street Mint, and Sunshine Minting. The only differences among the bars are their dimensions and the methods by which they are produced, as discussed below.

I collect those little super bouncy balls...and every time I go to a diner I have to get a stuffed animal out of the claw machine...immature? sure...but cheap and fun...and I collect guitars and vintage tube amps...(though I play all of them regularly so it's not for the long term payoff)...the bouncy balls get color coordinated and put in vases etc...fairly decorative...I'm such a dork...

It's true that you won't go broke. There is a huge market for this so you can always sell it when you want to without a hassle. I don't collect these just to have; a better word would be "investing" I guess.

I'm every neighbourhoods worst nightmare. I collect vehicles. Once in a while, I wise up and sell off some of the crap I collect. Inevitably I start all over again though. I'm glad I have good understanding neighbours.

Now as for something that just might have a chance of actually gaining in value, I'm collecting all of the quarters for the 50 state quarter program, both circulated coins for the book, and silver proofs for show.

Check www.apmex offering 100oz brick at $7.41
Traditional wisdom was that gold was always 10 times higher then silver.
If that is stil true then silver is way under valued. However that is good topic for another tread.

I collect old lighters. zippo's mostly.

I have well over 50 of them.

My favorites:

1950's Sterling Silver Tiffany and company italy zippo with honey comb pattern.
1950's gold dupont
1960's sterling silver dunhill

I havent bought any in a long time, it's been several years since I bought any. Do they have value, I don;t really care, they have value to me.

I wouldn't say that I'm a true collector of anything, but I'm always on the lookout for old fishing gear and Omega watches.

Thanks for reminding me I have this silver bar and no idea what its worth but its pretty cool, cool enough that I had to ask mrs. medmech if we still had it.

I collect art, no real big names. Just what I think is good original artwork from where I've travelled. No realism, some abstract, some Asian.

I have a small collection of pipes. Savinellis and a few Dutch freehand pipes.

Its seems odd that 100 oz's of silver is worth 10% of a commerically made wood fishing lure.

I collect bottles of hot suace and AOL CD's. The AOL CD"s I collect are the ones that you see for free at Walmart, Target etc. What people do not know is that on the back sides of the CD's are pictures of actors, world events and themes from newly released movies. For example, when Star Wars came out I looked through about 300+ CD's on a rack at Target and then found the one that had the movie poster printed on the back side. Something strange to collect, but hey what can I say!
