Does the Government know if you are a Democrat or a Republican ?
I was always curious about this question, hopefully someone can give me a nicely detailed answer. I usually get ballots from Democrats for local elections......any way to change that if that is the case ?

Yup. As part of registering to vote, you checkmark your party. IIRC, if you want to change your affiliation, you have to re register. I get lots of republican stuff as I had originally registered as such.

I would call your voter registration office and ask them about the process.
