Oooooh, you're gonna get in trouuuuubbbbble!

You know, I went up to the bar last to see a an old buddy who was in town for the night with his new g/f. Said buddy had been a steadfast conservative but was offered a job with the Kerry campaign and took it. He met his g/f there, and she's very, VERY liberal. We had a genuinely enjoyable chat about the strengths and weaknesses of respective preferred candidates. It was a truly enlightening evening spent talking politics... in a bar, no less! Amazing. I wish that civility were as common elsewhere!

I am curious as to your friend’s opinions of those fellows having been on both sides of the fence recently... How did he see it?

Uh... he had kind things to say about both sides. We had a very civil discussion about each side's strengths and weaknesses; his g/f is a headstrong dem, but was fair in her assessments. It was unbelievably pleasant!

More later, perhaps... I think Gilly was toying with the idea of allowing 1 or 2 political threads at a time. If he OKs this I'll discuss the matter more. Gotta run now; I have Air National Guard duty and need to get on the road! I'll be back Sunday night to check on the thread.

Have a good weekend!

Chris

Yeah I was thinking I should have put a poll on this thing:
"Do you want this thread deleted?" Yes - No
Can that be edited in?
Anyway, I think it is ridiculous to say that Jesus would be a Democrat or a Republican... Just thought I would stretch out my arms and enjoy the freedom granted by our benevolent dictator.

Is Benzworld offline again?

The more of these posts I see, the more convinced I am that, as for Mercedesshop goes, the moderators are right.

Well, if he were to allow three threads of this type at any one time, I sure wish that this was not one of them.

Just stupidity.

Yyyeah, probably not the best start, BUT if there are no other political threads started I can just as well leave it for now.

Can you explain this? Which mods, here or there?

There are quite a few scholars who think that Jesus was clearly opposed to the Roman Imperial system and this was a significant component of his message and popular appeal. Whether this makes him a Democrat or Republican I don't know.
For a few hundred years, Christians were forbidden from serving in the Roman Imperial army.

I have always thought that the papacy (in Roman Catholicism) and the lack of (a Pope), with comparable omnipotence, (in Eastern Catholicism) were some how connected to those two civilizations. The "Roman Imperial system" and the Greek Democratic one, spawning churches that were in line with their own conventions.

Perhaps the answer lies in his "platform"

Economy = Interest charged on loans is bad; personal acts wrecked havoc on bakery and fishing industries

Healthcare = Strong belief in hands on healing and raising from the dead

Death Penalty = Eliminated stoning through qualfication technicality

Separation of Church and State = You're kidding, right?

I have a feeling that if Jesus were present, he would not be especially pleased with anything we have done since the last time we murdered him.
