Biased Hrricane coverage by the media
Is it just me or does the news coverage seem to make it seem like the only hurricane victims are black and live only in New Orleans? I rarely even hear a mention of anything outside of New Orleans...where is the Gulfport coverage, in fact anything in Missisippi.
Where is th enews coverage on the Balance of that 90,000 square miles that were effected....many parts far worse than New Orleans was.

Yeah, what about all the other properties in NYC that were destroyed on 9/11 . . it's all Twin Towers this, Twin Towers that . . . sheesh. And, you'd think that it was only Aceh or ****et that was struck by the tsunami . . . damn you, biased American media . . .

You raise an excellent point, Bone.
And, I wish to crucify the news media with their own data, which you were so kind to post. You mention 90,000 square miles. Do you fellows realize how large this is? You would need a swath of destruction from the shoreline to 90 miles inland, for 1000 miles in length to equal 90,000 square miles. No offense to you personally Bone, but the data is absorbed by the public, hook line and sinker, and it is off by a factor of 38X. I calculate that the maximum amount of destruction that would be possible is 2,350 square miles. This is nothing new for the media. I remember when the Exxon Valdez spilled 11 million gallons of oil. The media reported it as 11 million barrells. No big deal. They were off by a factor of 42X. See a pattern here? |

![]() But, I find it a bit frightening that the average man in the street gets his information from these outlets, and he believes it. Bonehead, who is by no means the average man, reported the erroneous fact several times on this forum without so much as a thought.

The Gulf Region is not my stomping ground but any idiot wo watched the satellite pictures knows New Orleans didn't get the brunt and they were by far not the only ones effected... Coverage of other areas has been extremely spotty at best...... Is it becasue THOSE areas are predominately white...and the liberal pres wants to play the race card claiming its the blacks who were disporportionatly effected...and the only way that would work was to totally ignore everyone outside New Orleans? Think about it....who is blaming Bush...who is claiming reponse was racialy based...and who is refusing to cover harder hit areas (white areas) to bolster those claims....knowing most of us in the USA wil only see what we are shown. Think about it..too many coincidences....and too much Bush bashing for this to be a coincidence. Its been carefully orchastrated by the left to keep coverage limited to bolster false partisan claims against Bush.

I made the assumption that the destruction occurred for 20 miles inland. It's probably quite a bit less than this. In fact, it's probably less than 10 miles. If you believed the news, the path of destruction would go from the Texas/Louisiana border to within 50 miles of Tallahasee. ![]() And, if that is "what they say", why did you report it on here like you believed it? Why didn't you state what you believed, instead of parroting what "they said"? This is the fundamental problem that I'm addressing. Too many people take the information as presented on network news and use it as if it were factual. Including you Bone. |

CNN leading up to the Hurricane said there was a 250 mile radius from the eye...thats where I got that information....after all thats one of the liberal media sources I have heard argued by the lefties never ever fluffs stories.. I reffer to them as the Clinton News Network....but I was in Italy I only had what was availible to me and thats what AFN (Armed Forces Network) carried for the news.... Like I said that area is not my stomping ground...in any case it extended WAY beyond New Orleans....the center and the worst of it was somewhat EAST of New Orleans....on area had a 37 foot tidal surge per the coverage I saw. Why are these areas not shown? Hell what about Gulfport...I doubt I have heard that place even mentioned 3 times this week. Thats where the eye hit, New Orleans got the easy end of it.

http://mediamatters.org/items/200509080002#20050909 http://mediamatters.org/items/200509090006 Snippet: "On September 8, the Post falsely reported that "the Bush administration's funding requests for the key New Orleans flood-control projects for the past five years were slightly higher than the Clinton administration's for its past five years," a claim that was subsequently picked up in a September 9 Post column by Charles Krauthammer and by Fox News host Brit Hume on the "Grapevine" segment of the September 8 edition of Special Report with Brit Hume. In fact, the Clinton administration's budgets for 1996-2000 requested many times more money for the Lake Pontchartrain Hurricane Protection program that the Post referenced than the Bush administration did for fiscal years 2002-2006, and Clinton also proposed significantly more federal money for other key flood-control projects in New Orleans and budgeted more money for the New Orleans district of the Army Corps of Engineers." |

It's very possible that the hurricane force winds extended out 250 miles from the eye. Hell, the LA/TX border might have received 60 mph winds for all I know. But, what's the relevance to the damage that occurred? Clearly, if you analyzed just a bit of additional info, you would have realized that there was no possibility that damage occurred along 500 miles of coastline. And, if you thought about it for a fraction of a second, the statement of 90,000 square miles is absolutely ridiculous. But, you didn't. You believed what they told you, even though you refer to them as the Clinton News Network. It's clearly a source that you distrust, yet you pass along the info on this forum, several times, as if it were factual. A bit hypocritical, don't you think? |

Hey..thats who the lefties quote as gospel... see how the lefty press is so wrong...just like Fox says....... So explain why MS is completely ignored...they had towns completely blow or washed away and little coverage... A levy breaks and the lefties focus on that and Blame it on Bush.... not the lefty Governor or the lefty Mayor...
