Off subject - disableing EGR on a '94 F-150?
Anyone know if this is possible and how I would go about doing this?

I find the best way is to fabricate a metal plate to slip in at a connection to block the flow of gases.

Cool. Thanks, guys. I wasn't sure if just plugging it would have any poor effects on my engine. Man, this forum rocks. All morning I've been trying to find a Ford forum that is worth something, but they all suck! No one seems to know anything. This forum is where the info is.

Why would you want to disable the EGR system in the first place?

If it has California emissions there might be an EGR temp sensor that will trip a CEL.

Why would you do this? What do you expect to gain?

I would think that disabling the EGR on a gas engine would increase detonation, which can destroy an engine. EGR reduces NOX emissions by reducing the temperature of the combustion gases. The pistons, valves, etc., on the gas engines are designed with that reduced temperature in mind. I don't think EGR has the same protective effect on diesels, so the only problem with blocking the EGR on diesels is that you will get increased emissions.

The EGR valve only opens during deceleration and light load cruising when vacuum is high. There is little risk of detonation under those conditions. When the engine is under load there is little to no manifold vacuum so there's no way the EGR valve can open. EGR can't be a benefit when denotation is likely to occur.
