any Elvis Costello Fans?

I've been listening to his discography, he's definitely improved through the years but he was never bad either. Very easy on the ears.

Accidents will happen, if only hit and run....

Costello kinda came and went in my musical playlist. I think he's pretty dated and his music couldn't hold my interest. There were moments though, but then there were moments for the 'Jim Carrol Band' too.

If you like Elvis, check out Graham Parker, particularly his early stuff like Squeezing Out Sparks and the Up Escalator. Unfortunately, both performers kinda lost their edginess over the years.

Must be interesting having duets with wife, D. Krall. The disc with Burt Bacharach was nice.

I like his later stuff, but imho nothing he's done since can touch his first three, My Aim is True, This Year's Model, or Armed Forces - those were tremendous. Starting with Get Happy in 1980, he consciously took himself out of the new wave pop mainstream and went niche-y, and I don't think he's ever completely come back from that (I don't know if he wanted to). They've all been re-released recently by Rhino with a lot of bonus tracks, live, outtakes, etc., definitely worth picking up.

Elvis Costello (or Declan Patrick Aloysius McManus, his birth name) is a definite fav of mine. Caught myself walking through the office half singing "Oliver's Army" today after looking at this thread.

i remember in '77 when he was on snl the first time and the band started playing alison (i think) and about five chords in elvis steps to the mike and says "i can't play this song, it has no meaning" (or something like that) and they break into the song he wanted to play. i found out the story behind the incident on a biography-type show a couple years ago. i like his appearances in t.v. and movies; it shows his humor. as for his music, his mellifluous voice and guitar lines are one of a kind.

I think he's still very edgy I can't think of another singer/group that is close to him. His music always seems new and fresh to my ears although I know every chord and chorus.

Heck one of his songs was the deciding factor for out daughters name we were undecided and I said heck lets go with Alison and she'll have a kick ass song. I played the song for my wife and bammo we had a name.
