I dunno. Not sure I would want to carpool and would buy one to avoid the issues. Not to say I am too important or what but I would use it so I don't have to carpool with strangers or be inconvenienced by having to coordinate with someone else when I go.
I don't think the Hybrids should get free rides on HOV....then see how the sales plummet on them...

If it wasn't for the fact that I would get great incentives like that, you think I would even think of one of those limped dick things? It lets the rule makers say they are doing something valuable and people feel good about themselves.

THey are seriously considering taking away that privledge here...becasue so many single drivers in Hybrids that think they are special are jamming up the HOV lanes daily....

Yes, they still use fossil fuels but if driven correctly they use a lot less than the typical vechicle that gets in the 20mpg-30mpg range. And thats kind of the point. Oil will eventually run out, if thats tomorrow or in 1000 years, thats another discussion. We need to start looking into other options now before we don't have any fossil fuels, and you have to start somewhere. Hybrid technology and peoples general knowledge is still in its infancy. Things and people will change. Peope need to slow down in general to get the best milage out of any vehicle, cruising at 80 on the highway isn't going yield great milage in any vehicle.
When people started messing with biodiesel and veggie they destroyed a lot of engines and still are in some cases, and no one complains about that.
I agree that they shouldn't have special privalges. I run biodiesel and I don't expect special privalges and I feel it is a better option that BD. Arguements can be made against all the alternative fuels, ethanol, hydrogen, biodiesel, windpower, etc.

Sorry, I looked into buying one, and they are suckers bet.

That's my IMHO.

Toyota does have a recycling program in place for the HV batteries.

and how do we know these things will last.. according to the prius members forum the "classic" years are still running on their original batteries.. pffft screw that give me some over engineered german car
The "classic" model (referred to as such as it was the first version), has vehicles still on the road in excess of 200,000 miles with no issues whatsoever, and yes, still on their original batteries.

i love hearing hybrid owners whine.. im not getting 60 mpg.. well idiot if you didnt live out in the boondocks and fly at 80 mph all day long maybe you would.. hybrids are for city driving stop go etc.. but in a city cars are useless so get a bike the energy is free..
Wrong. I also live in the "boondocks", driving 100 miles round trip every day commuting. Simply slowing down had me beating the city numbers on a decidedly highway biased commute, over 90% highway to be exact.

I've come to the conclusion that people here are just contentious.

Here in AZ you can't drive a hybrid in the HOV lane, but they are sold in droves.

And I realize that the economics favor a Civic/Corolla etc. And that I wouldn't swap my 300SD for a hybrid, I'm not interested in a car that size.

Do we really need to diss people for wishing, at their own expense, to USE LESS FUEL and WASTE FEWER resources???
