Turnout Strong for Iraq Parliamentary Vote

Dec 15, 1:11 PM (ET)

By BASSEM MROUE

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Iraqis voted Thursday in one of the largest and freest elections in the Arab world, with strong turnout reported in Sunni areas and even a shortage of ballots in some precincts. Several explosions rocked Baghdad throughout the day, but the level of violence was low.

"This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning." Speech given at the Lord Mayor's Luncheon, Mansion House, London, November 10, 1942.

It's a sad commentary indeed when "several" explosions that "rocked Baghdad" is a low level of violence.

Sure hope there's something to these elections.
