Im Confused
Hi,I was doing some W140 reading and saw that the color of my 1998 S500 (Obsidian Black)was a special feature on the 1999 S500 Grand Editions.Does that mean that my S500's paint is custom, or did the original owner pay extra for it and does it come stock on a grand edition?Also,why do Grand Editions,if im not mistaken, have 302 Horsepower and the previous models have 315 Horsepower.Is this a mistake or is it right?Somebody please help,so confused.

Pop the hood, on the front cross member I think on your left you will see a painted over plate. On that plate will be your paint code, for example mine is 904.
HP dropped off a bit in 1993 I think. They also got limiters. For example the early M120's made 402 and the later ones made 385. I think the power drop on the V12 happend when they switched ignition systems.

Do the Grand Editions have laser keys or the regular box keys?

I don't know this is all speculation. If you don't have the orignal window sticker MB will send you a copy and that should tell you about the options.
If that doesn't work the dealer can probably tell you with the vin.

I have the original window sticker,but I was wondering if the Obsidian Black on the 1999 Grand Editions come standard instead of as an option.

What do you mean "laser key"? If you mean the "smartkey", the 140's didn't have them. In the US anyways.
