as a younger man I was run down by a car while riding my bike. When I landed, it was mouth first on the asphalt. It took out most of my anterior maxilla and the teeth therein. Many months later, during reconstructive procedures, the dentist/surgeon had to anesthetize my jaw so deeply that the needle perforated my nostril and he injected Novocaine in that cavity. That was before the technique of progressive injections for better dental comfort. I can still 'feel' the needle puncture my nasal passage and squirt down the back of my throat. *shudders* *squirms in seat*. I think the worst part is not being able to communicate the circumstance for all of the aparatus in my gob.

KE, your story resurrected this experience for me. So here's a Kerry #5 for you

This might sound really stupid, but is there anything wrong with putting a drop of the strongest spirits you can get on the tooth? Like from an eye dropper?

If bourbon helps, how about a drop of shine on it?

Thats probally a dumb, stupid, and painfull thing to do, so dont do it... Just a thought

Sorry about your tooth, teeth suck

Being a recipient of several root canals, I can speak from experience:

The flareups you've experienced is usually infection. If you are brushing your teeth and spitting up blood from that tooth, you probably need a root canal. Another symptom is halitosis (or bad breath), that can't be readily remedied by breath mints and such.

The dentist can tell for sure. A single root canal procedure is performed in one visit. Two things may determine multiple visits...if infection is detected, the procedure cannot be performed, so the dentist will put you on antibiotics for a week first. The other issue is fillings. Depending on the complexity of the root canal, a lengthy procedure is followed by a temporary filling for expediency, and a followup visit for the permanent one.

Tooth Pain

Find a local dental college. Call them and describe to them your problem. Tell them you are financially insolvent. Ask them if you can come down for a free examination to help their students further their knowledge. Get a free root canal and make new friends.....

A couple shots of Maker's Mark is an excellent pain killer.

When I have any problems with my teeth, I just UPS 'em in for the work.....
