Hunting Accidents.

I read this blurb in The Week. It talks about hunting accidents and implies that those who injure another while hunting seem to be held less culpable than someone injured or killed in say an car accident. The author theorizes that it is in part caused by this countries love affair with guns. He goes on to say that there was a case in Maine where a woman was leaving her home in the woods where a hunter was located. He was aprox 180 feet away and using a scope. He thought she was a buck and shot her. A jury cleared him of manslaughter and blamed the woman for wearing white mittens during hunting season. Seems like that Florida case a while back where a woman was raped in a bar and the jury said she was asking for it because she went comando.

I do hope that case is an exception to the rule but even 1 case suck as that is appalling. Does anyone have a way of getting the details of the case? I am guessing there has to be more to it but for the life of me cannot think of what it might be.
