Like others posted, increase water intake, reduce caffeine and alcohol, and the issues will all but disappear!

Trouble urinating is one symptom telling you that a stone passing is imminent, but I found that the bowels shut down as well every time!

Had one in Iraq - late at night (weeks of too much soda and not enough water). grew worse over 2 hours, then the pain 'climaxed' for 10-15 minutes, then it dropped and passed into the cup in the medic's office bathroom.

reason enough to cut soda out of your diet forever.

Hello; please excuse my rambling, I'm on serious levels of pain killer.

Sucks to be me today.
I woke up in mortal agony.
It only took a few minutes to realize I was having another kidney stone attack.
The Kidney Stone Web Site - Causes & Symptoms

For three hours I tried to avoid going to the hospital.
Unfortunately this was a total LEFT kidney blockage = major/dangerous attack.

By this time it was impossible for me to drive, and I required help walking.
I was retching + blinded by pain, could not see or dial my cell phone.

Thankfully; my daughter was home, called mom at work.
They hauled me into the hospital.

The doctor kept hitting me with pain killer, until I was able to talk coherently.
CT scan showed a 3mm stone in the Ureter, 4-5mm from dropping into the bladder.

It has not passed, "yet".
The doctors are sure it will within 24 hours, and gave me maximum dosage pain killers to help.

Kidney stones may be as small as a grain of sand or as large as a pearl. Some stones are even as big as golf balls. Stones may be smooth or jagged. They are usually yellow or brown.

Have an enemy?
Wish for them to get kidney stones.
Makes you tired all the time, can't sleep for the pain, don't laugh because it hurts to much, generally makes your life very poor.

Roy,

BTDT! They are no fun. I went through it about 10 years ago and didn't know what was going on until I passed it. I hurt like crazy every morning about the same time. I hope you get better soon!

All that said, I wish you wouldn't post this on here giving people such an idea to wish this on their enemies. I can tell already that there are lots of pins being thrust into a Voodoo doll that represent me.

Roy,

There is a new procedure for dealing with stones.

I recently reconnected with an Army buddy after 40 years. Long story short, he is a medical technician that does some sort of procedure that crushes the stone so that it passe easily.

I mentioned this to my doctor and he rattle off a name for it and led me to believe that it is becoming relatively common.

Ask your doctor about it and HANG IN THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish I could do something more to help, but ask your doctor about it.

Larry

My doctor has always warned me that because I have gout I'm at increased risk of kidney stones. Not so far and I hope never. I refuse to take the Rx meds for gout as I don't like the side effects. 8 months ago after doing a lot of reading and digging I put myself on a regimen of curcumin, milk thistle, 3 grams of vitamin C and a daily ounce of tart cherry juice concentrate. I've had not a single gout-bout since, and before starting I was having one about every 6 weeks or so.

Hang in there Roy. I wonder if three inverse tackian beams directed at the stone would send into a different dimension.

I was told a little while ago I had one but the doc told me it was too small to worry about. Every once and a while I get a pain right in the kidney, but it goes away. After reading this I am wondering whether I need to find a doc more willing to operate before I go thru that crap.

No need to operate these days Jolly. Read my earlier post about my Army buddy that now makes a living crushing stones so they can be passed in the urine. I have no idea how it is done, but my doctor indicated it was pretty common these days.

Good luck with it! If it gets worse, you will have some bad days.

"Lithotripter". Been around for decades. Breaks up the stone sonically so that the smaller pieces can pass without issue.

Looks like the one in the pic, but they were the size of an MRI back in the 80's.

Docs won't really recommend that procedure unless you are regularly passing golf ball-sized stones!

Okay, I didn't know about the golf ball size stone part of it. Too bad because it might have been just what Roy and Jolly need.
