I Just Stole a 2004 C240.... well sort of....

Well It was time to get my Fiance a new car. Picked up a 2004 C240 with 17600 miles on it. no more civic for her.

I literally stole the car off the lot for the price I paid for it.

I paid $19,500 for it, Certified Pre Owned with warranty till 2009 and maintenance till 2008. and can get the extended warranty till 2011 on it!

KBB on the car is About $29,000! (If one were to buy it from a dealer) I should have paid at least $$24,000 - $26,000 for this car if not more!

It is silver on black. I'll post picks when I take delivery of the car. Before they give it to me they are going to fix a few small things.

Not many mods planned for it, cause it is for the Fiance, but there is one big mod planned for it. Should be done by december!

WOW!! That is really news! Congrats to you both!!!

Man it's great to hear also a dealer "blew out" a starmarked car! You know, that doesn't happen very often - they will need to try and make it up on the next guy. The dealers can usually make larger dollar profits on the used cars than on new ones, where information on the prices is easily available...

Just wondering, which dealer gave you such a great deal? Simonson, Bev. Hills, Downtown LA, or other? Was it a trade in, auction buy or a lease return? Was it sold new from that dealer?

The safety factor trumps everything else, so of course I applaud you for doing it on that basis only - the Honda is just not that safe in an accident, so I am glad your views prevailed. You are a VERY savvy forum member.

Shrewd move, the little sedan

well Actually, My Brother is one of the top salespeople at Beverly Hills. He basically got me the deal. the car was a dealer loaner. They just gave it a full service too, new brakes and tires. and the interior is like brand new. The exterior has 2 small dings I can easily get fixed, and a tiny surface scratch on the trunk lid. other than that the car is as new.

I got it for $19,500 with tax and licensing included. so I actually technically bought the car for around $17,500 - $18,000 before tax and licensing.

Safety was the number one factor in the purchase. My fiance and I went just to go look at it. and for the deal, I just decided to buy it now. We werent in a rush to get a car, we were thinking about an X5, but she liked the c240. drove amazingly, and I compromised with her. She wasn;t prepared for me to just up an buy it right then and there, but The deal was too good to pass up. I could probably turn around and sell it for $25,000 easily tomorrow if I wanted.

It is good to have a hookup at the dealer. My brothers boss did the deal at such a low price as a favor to me. I owe his boss big time. They could have just said no way.

You once again proved the adage "The only way you can beat the system is to wear its uniform", with your brother on the inside track at BH. It's a win/win cause your brother will get a commission too!!

Besides the convenient location, BH Mercedes stands on its own as a really good dealer. They have a good service department, and a previous owner of my car (The man who owned the Beverly Hills Hotel) took it there for work, and I was there a couple of times, for work and also to ask for prior history on the car and they were very cooperative. They gave me choices about which gas caps could be replaced on the car (didn't know there was one!) plus they took me as an out of town priority customer when they didn't have to.

The facility is absolutely top notch in every way, with a wonderful boutique (some items unique to that dealer) a great place for customers to wait, always super models on the showroom, and of course, ALWAYS interesting and exotic stuff going in and out of the service department. I always enjoy dropping by the place if I was in the area.

I'm sure your brother must have plenty of stories of "recognized names" he's dealt with

I have been to or used several others in the area, and only Fletcher Jones in Newport Beach is as much fun to drop in as BH. Calstar, W.I. Simonson, Downtown LA, and House of Imports are not "destination" places

A dealer loaner/rental from a white gloved dealer is a GREAT way to get one almost new. These are seldom abused like the Hertz/National/Dollar rentals are, and since they represent the dealer to important service customers, they HAVE to be in perfect condition at all times.

I bought one of those cars (Ford Crown Vic) back in the late 80's from the Ford dealer (Holmes Tuttle) in Tucson, and got an incredible bargain on it, it was only 10 months old but for just $11,000. (New was around $16-17k) For some reason sometimes the dealers occasionally let these go really cheap.

It's like almost getting a brand new one. Great story!!! I agree with the advice about the wheels, AMG looks great on them

Jim

So when is the baby due?

Do you know if you are having a boy or a girl?

we find out if it is a boy or girl at the end of the month.

I'll definate post pics as soon as I grab the car. had them fix a small issue with a tail light being out. Should be picking the car up today.

I don;t plan on using the CE for a car seat. too cumbersome to put the baby in a coupe thats why we got the c240. 4 doors = easier.

Maybe later I will get a 4 door for myself, but as it stands. baby wont be riding in the CE.

Alon

I hear ya brother. My twin babies never ride in my E430. Just not happening. That is why the wife has a Volvo.
