I think the plans are readily available over the Internet

Knowing how to make an atomic bomb is not so hard from what I've read. Owning the precision machineshop required to produce the hardware for it is one of the big "barriers to entry." The other one is, of course, obtaining the required materials.

You have to go to Pakistan or N. Korea for that.

Hey, Don, I think you should just go ahead and change your screen name to McGyver. Do you think you could possible build a satellite communications device from some old gum wrappers, a piece of string, and a broken TV? I betting you could from the sound of it.

You really don't have to build a nuclear bomb it is just elementary Physics. You put enough fuel in proximity and it goes boom. This is why they talk so much about the capability to produce weapons grade fuel, that is where the technology come into play.

Now back to the project. There are surplus turbines for giveaway prices. Check for Auxiliary Power Units for aircraft.

twitchy.. good news.. a guy that frequents my grocery store works for lockheed martin as an aerospace engineer.. i asked him just an hour ago if they had any small gas turbines that were fragged or just old. i told him what i was doing and such for school and he said sure ill look for ya.. and then he asked how much thrust ? 50lbs? i said what ever you can find will be fine for me...

Proximity gets a chain reaction, density gets an explosion. If you want a bomb you need to increase the density of the reaction mass. That's why the bomb is triggered by a chemical explosion. It "implodes" by sending extremely high velocity shock waves which coalesce to increase density enough for unconstrained fission.

But first you need the right isotope of the right element and then figure out how much to compress it.

I still think a Sterling engine is a better learning tool.

Hey, what about a continuous-feed biodiesel cracker?

you just had to suggest sterlings... i didnt get the go ahead... sterlings are sooooo boring to me...but its what i have to work with now.. ill try and make it interesting but its not becoming interesting...
