No way to tell--if he enters a guilty plea there would only be a sentencing phase (maybe bench(short), maybe jury(long)---don't know about colorado. otoh, if this guy has reached the end of his rope, has no money and nothing to lose and is just doing this as his next 'gig', he may go back to colorado, withdraw his confession, enter not guilty and it could last for ever (although he will likely have appointed attorneys so not like peterson or oj unless Gerry Spence appears pro bono).
update: two people in alabama have placed him there during the time of the murder. Last edited by John Doe; 08-17-2006 at 01:06 PM. |

Perhaps he was out of money in thailand and wanted a free ride home, once he gets here there is no evidence and he gets marked a nutcase and released.:fork_off:

I didn't read through all the replies. I had my own since I saw his reply towards the top.
I've a feeling the case is gonna be a bit screwy. He admits guilt for being responsible for the girl's death, but 2 people have an alibi that he was in a different state during the time? |

Agreed 100%. One of the rare exceptions where I don't think there is a punishment sufficient to fit the crime and cannot objectively represent a client so I don't do it.

I wasn't commenting on your post, I was just calling you a jackass based on a couple of previous threads. Totally in jest. Sorry, it has been a long day

This poor kid had an unimaginably bad childhood (molesters don't pick the well-adjusted ones) and the attorney grilled him on every detail in an effort to show inconsistencies in his story. The accused was guilty as sin IMO but got off because they couldn't prove that certain acts had occurred at certain places at certain times. During the trial at least one woman came up to me and said the guy had molested her son as well, but she chose not to go to the cops because she thought it would be even more traumatizing. She was right! And as we all know, even if they go to jail they will probably do it again when they get out.

Right on 300. I am a zealous advocate for innocent until proven guilty and know people get falsley accused (often), but, I will admit I just don't have the stomach for it.
