need help 2 format Compaq HD

Hey,

Im trying to help out a friend. She has a Compaq PC withoriginal HD. It has a virus and I figured I'd just reformat the HD and do clean instal of XP. Come to find out Compaq has this hidden partition for the restore disk to run off of (it won't work either).

Any ideas how to format this HD and get rid of the partitions. I thought I saw some were some mention of a progam you can down load call delpaq or something like that but I have googled it and have had no luck so far.

When I put the XP disk in it errors out about half way through. Pretty sure it is not the disk as I have several coppies and Ihave done this before on my own PC with out incident.

Thanks

David, are you using the original Compaq CD or is it your own copy of XP?

If you use the Compaq CD it will do everything for you and take care of all the partitioning automatically unless they give you some sort of drive parameters but they usually will not.

If you're using your own XP disk then you can erase partitions as you wish at the formatting window in the XP CD boot menu and decide to quick or full format.

All of the problems may be exacerbated by a damaged disk.

Where does the XP installation crash?

E-mail me and I can walk you through it.
