				Is a 99' BMW 7-Series a Known Problem Car?

I've been happy with my 86 300E for a couple years, but the age is getting it it. Too many problems to fix and not enough time. I need something just as nice, but less miles. Does anyone know how well BMWs are built? Do they share the same reputation of lasting forever, like my current Benz? Thanks

The recent 7 series have been problematic, at the very least unpleasant to maintain. The 5 and 3 are much safer purchases.

The only 7 I ever had was an E32 body, the electrical system looked like something I would have cobbled together in my garage. The cars are spiffy-looking and when they work right, are great drivers, but I have gotten burned on every BMW I have ever owned and I don't intend to ever have another.

			1. 82 320i...rust got it, parted it 2. 84 528e...sold it at a profit to someone I know, the clutch and gearbox self-destructed within 5 days, so I refunded part of the money. 3. 88 735iL...sold it to another guy I know, it promptly caught on fire 10 days after I sold it to him, he had to cut the main wire harness with tin snips to cut off the power so the fire would stop. He reported that the fuses were popping like popcorn in the main fusebox.

I had a E30 325ic. I had to replace everything rubber in the suspension at 53k miles and when I sold it three years later it needed it again.

I guess I've been lucky so far with my 352i E-30. Bought it at 214K with a stack of service records, promptly replaced the timing belt, water pump, clutch, and driveline (age related issues) and it's ran like a clock ever since.

I know lots of people that are real happy with a E-30, it probably depends on how the car was driven and maintained. Heck, I had a 320is that I had to let go because of rust issues that never let me down. I think that the E-30 I had was ragged on from day one. I bought it from a dealer I know that I shouldn't have trusted.

Email me and I will get into more detail. The E38 and newer 7's can be very bad. German Car You Know!
