What's market value of 1972 350SL.

Hey folks, didn't know where to post this.

Across from my daughter's school is a dark brown '72 350 SL. Great chrome, minty tan tex interior, typical alligatoring on portions of the hood and trunk, both tops, soft top replaced, also passenger and driver's side resprayed, decent enough except for some fisheye,my magnet revealed no bondo.

Called the guy,brother-in-law's car{ho,hum}divorce,{yawn}the usual *****,130,000 miles.

Seems like a nice weekend jaunt car,guy said $6,000.00 or BEST OFFER,haven't driven it,although the guy said I could take it where I want. Not worried about assessing condition as I am a historic vehicle troubleshooter and consultant.

I am not that familiar with cars made after the '50's,was thinking in terms of a car{automatic}my wife can enjoy.

I'm thinking $4,000 if most things check out, what's your opinion?I got pics, for all they're worth.....

1972 (and '73) are the best years of the W107 SL's.

They have the original euro-style bumpers. The federalized bumpers on later cars look like park benches.

Also, even though 1972 models were badged as 350 SL's, they really have the 4.5 liter V8. Most were changed over either at the dealer or by the subsequent owner(s) of the cars. I guess yours wasn't "rebadged" which makes it cooool.

1972 and 1973 also don't have smog equipment, like catalytic converters, so they make more hp.

I say $6,000 for a clean car is already a deal.

$4,000 is a steal.

Why don't you buy it for John Doe as a gift, or as a trade for free legal services?

Just rub it in Paul. I actually have a couple of guys trying to find a car for me in the Dallas and Orlando areas (auctions), but we'll see.

Unlike probably most of the rest of you, I hate car shopping. I hate any type of shopping and I hate 'haggling' and auctions. Fortunately my wife is a cold blooded shark at auctions and a shameless haggler, so it kind of works out

O.K. mon ami's,here are some pics.

I'm gonna take the car for a shakedown on Sat,bring it to my garage, give it a leakdown, lift it and check suspension play,et,al,and wring it out on the Northern State Pkwy.

If for any reason I make an offer and they decline I will gladly post the contact info.

Well, that's essentially the data I've arrived at.

Proof's in the pudding, they say so we'll see how it tests and handles, could be a poorly maintained smokebox or could be a well maintained relic in need of a few updates, time will tell, and so will the parkway at 90mph plus.....

Can anyone get a close up of the telephone number on the "for sale" sign on the car's window? For $6K in that body condition, I'd take my chances on the mehcanicals and do the deal over the telephone

it looks very nice. hard to tell much in a photo though.

but that body style with the small bumpers looks very agile and clean. i like the wheel covers too.

Carleton, go over there and buy that one, mmmmkay?

That is the very first R107 *my* g/f has approved of , and we see dozens daily (Scottsdale AZ area) and at that price it's a great deal, barring junk driveline and electricals.

Heck, if that very car were in *my* neighborhood, I'd be doing some mental calculation right now... and we have 3 cars for 2 drivers already...
