So I think I'm going to be transferring schools next semester...
The school I am currently attending significantly cut my financial aid, which is the biggest reason I came here. So now that I am paying quite a bit more for college whether I go here or somewhere else, I am really wanting to go to a school of my choice. Anyways, I wanted to see if anyone knows anything about any of these schools that I am looking at or can offer any insight into wasing the transfer process. I hope to have my applications everywhere finalized by this Friday. I have the applications done including the essays, but am having my oldest brother read them over this evening in Utah. Tomorrow I am hoping to ask two of my profs if they would write me a letter of recommendation, well actually it is an evaluation form they fill out then mail to the schools. Anyways, here's my list in order of preference:
Boston College (good chance I won't get in, but I would LOVE to go here) Stonehill College (about 40 minutes outside of Boston) College of the Holy Cross (about 50 minutes outside of Boston) Emmanuel College (Boston, MA) Loyola College (in Baltimore) Hillsdale College (Hillsdale, MI) Cornell College (in Iowa, not the ivy) Marquette University (Milwaukee, WI) Loyola University of Chicago I am just curious to see if you guys have any experience what so ever with any of these schools or what you may have heard about any of them. I would really like to go to school in Boston, especially Boston College, but if I don't get in there I would like another school in the area. Emmanuel is actually in Boston, but it does not seem to be as good of a school as Holy Cross or Stonehill. Anyways, just let me know what you guys think. Thanks David

Have you thought about NYU or Penn State ?
Heck, look into Rutgers New Brunswick as well.

If you go to Boston College you should have a chance to study with Mary Daly, one of the most creative feminist theologians of the past 50 yrs. I believe she is still there.
Hillsdale College is the capitalist/nationalist college par excellence, still getting over the weird affair of the chancellor with his daughter in law(?). I get their newsletter to keep a finger on the pulse of the academic right. They are constantly bringing in nationally known conservative speakers. If you want an education weighted way towards the right, this is the place. Have heard good things about Cornell College but I can't remember the context. In my opinion, going to school in a large city is advantageous. What's happening with the cupholders? Oops, looks like Daly retired: http://www.bc.edu/bc_org/rvp/pubaf/chronicle/v9/f15/daly.html

A friend of mine got his undergrad in music at Cornell College. He went on to win the biggest guitar competition in the world in 1992. If you're looking for a wild time forget it, although there's a gas station which serves great pork loin sandwiches one exit North of the Des Moines airport.

kamil, Rutgers is a pretty good school but certainly not what I am looking for. NYU and Penn State are along the same lines of being way too large. I enjoy getting to know my professors and having them more concerned with teaching than research, though Wabash profs do a ton of research.
kerryedwards, Hillsdale is a really good school, my oldest sister went there. It also seems to have a pretty good reputation as well.

about the cupholders, I would love to start making them again but even the money up front it takes on my part let alone the research to get them all fitting just right is quite substantial. If I start making them again, which I hope to do, it would only be for the 123 since I already have a prototype made up for those.
Thanks David

I'm looking at either medicine or dentistry and plan on majoring in religion/religious studies.
123c, I am not too interested in going out west just yet in my life. I would like to one day live in AZ, but that will have to wait. I don't mind cold weather yet and I can still go out east without having to worry about plan tickets. Boston is a 13 hour drive from my house, very doable for me who loves to drive. If I go to school in the middle of Boston, which only Emmanuel is in Boston, I wouldn't have a car. B.C. is just outside of the city so I could probably have a car there. Thanks David

My friend is going to Fairfield U for his dentistry major, he seems to like it.
If you do go into medicine I cannot think of a better field to enter. Every dentist I know makes well into the 6 figures. One I know flew down to FL this past weekend to finalize the purchase of his new $1.5M boat. With that career path you actualy pay back your student loans pretty quick, you still suck wind until your late 20's though. BTW if you are going to school in Boston, I do expect you to attend some of the GTG's.

Hattie,
I was on princetonreview last week looking for schools and I inadvertantly looked at Farifield. To be honest nothing really struck me about the school. It is too big and not in the area that I would like to live in though I'm sure Fairfield, CT is a really nice area. The biggest thing is Fairfield's size. I don't recall if it is private or public, all the schools I'm looking at are private though. kerry, I spoke to one of my religion profs yesterday. He was thinking they somewhat forced Daly out. He said she was pretty far out there and fit every stereotype of a radical feminist such as being a lesbein, hating men, and would even cut her class off just to men. Doesn't seem like the best person, but who knows. Thanks David

Try Minnesota. St. Thomas, Concordia, Augsburg, Macalester, St. Olaf, or the best, St. Johns, which is very close to St. Joseph, the town with the largerst concentration of Benedictine women in the nation.

I don't know I looked at a bunch of schools, Fairfield amoung them, they all looked the same to me. So I picked the cheapest one, Southern. So far I have not regreted this choice, since all of my professors have been great. Not to mention a large chunk teach at other schools, like Fairfield. So for the $5k a year or whatever Southern is costing me I'm happy.
